Don't miss seasonal events and festivals throughout the year. What is the meaning of the name Roswell? The city's origin can be traced back to the 1830's when Roswell King decided Vickery Creek would be the ideal spot for a pair of cotton mills. He founded the city of Roswell in 1839, named it after himself, and harnessed the power of local waterways to make the area a powerhouse in the Southern textiles market.

Built in 1839 and 1853, The Roswell Manufacturing Company Mills would serve as a vital part of the South's early cotton industry. Two mills were burned by Union forces in July 1864 during General Sherman’s March to the Sea. After the Civil War, one was rebuilt, only to be destroyed again by fire in 1926.

Today, the Roswell Mill ruins can be found in Old Mill Park, a historical site located just across the street from The Mill Kitchen and Bar restaurant. The waterfall that powered the original Mills offers picturesque views from interpretive trails, and a covered pedestrian bridge takes visitors across the creek and provides access to the Chattahoochee River trail system. Popular with families and kids of all ages, these trails are also a hit for photographers and social media selfies.
